Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you commit.

How Sumday works, what’s included, and what hasn’t been decided yet. If your question isn’t here, ask us directly.

Getting started

How do I start working with Sumday?

Complete the short qualification form on the Get Started page. We review what you’ve told us, discuss your needs, confirm the scope of work and send a written proposal. Nothing begins until you’ve accepted a service agreement.

What happens after I submit the form?

We review your answers and contact you to discuss the business, your current records and the support you need. If Sumday isn’t a good fit, we’ll tell you.

Do I need to have my books in order before starting?

No. Many businesses come to us with records that are behind or incomplete. Catch-up and cleanup work is assessed and quoted separately before monthly service begins.

What will you need from me during onboarding?

Typically: access to your accounting software, a list of bank, card and payment-processor accounts, recent statements, and details of your payroll provider and tax professional if you have them. We confirm the exact list during onboarding.

Bookkeeping

What does monthly bookkeeping include?

Categorising transactions, reconciling every connected bank, card and processor account to its statement, closing the month, and delivering a profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash summary. Questions about unclear transactions are batched so you can answer them together.

Do you use cash or accrual accounting?

Either, depending on your business and what your tax professional recommends. Accrual adjustments beyond those agreed in your scope are part of controller-level work.

What is the difference between bookkeeping, controller and CFO services?

Bookkeeping records and reconciles what happened. A controller reviews the close, adds controls and produces management reporting. A CFO or planning engagement looks forward — forecasts, budgets and decisions. Tax returns are prepared by a licensed tax professional, not by Sumday.

Can you catch up books that are months or years behind?

Yes, as a separately scoped project. We assess how far behind the records are and what documents exist, then quote the work before starting.

Pricing and scope

How much does Sumday cost?

Pricing has not been published yet. Your price will depend on factors such as transaction volume, the number of accounts, payroll, add-on services and any cleanup work. The scope estimator shows how these factors affect your plan, and every quote is confirmed in writing before an agreement.

How is my scope confirmed?

After you share details about your business, we review your accounts and current records, confirm what work is included and excluded, and set it out in a written proposal. You decide whether to proceed.

Are advisory services priced the same way?

No. Controller, CFO, planning, systems and U.S. expansion work is scoped individually after a consultation and quoted in a separate proposal.

What isn’t included in a monthly plan?

Anything outside your written scope — for example historical catch-up, tax return preparation, audits, legal advice or services you haven’t added. Your proposal lists inclusions and exclusions.

Payroll and add-ons

Do you run payroll?

Sumday coordinates payroll: preparing inputs for your approval and recording each run in your books. Payroll itself is processed through your payroll provider, and an authorised person at your business approves each run.

Can you pay our bills?

Sumday can capture, code and route bills for approval and prepare payment runs. Payments are released by authorised people at your business through your bank or bill-pay tool; Sumday does not hold client funds.

Will you chase our customers for payment?

With accounts receivable support, we send invoices and courteous reminders in the way you approve. Disputes are escalated to you. Sumday is not a collection agency.

Can I add services later?

Yes. Services can be added to your scope as the business changes, with any change confirmed in writing.

Software

Which accounting software do you support?

Tell us what you use during your consultation and we’ll confirm whether we can support it before you commit. We don’t publish a list of supported platforms until it has been confirmed.

Do I have to change software?

Not necessarily. Many improvements come from configuration and process changes. If a change would help, we explain why and confirm any subscription costs with you first.

Who owns the accounting file?

Our intended approach is for your accounting file and accounts to stay in your business’s name, with Sumday given user access. This will be confirmed in your service agreement.

Reporting

What reports will I receive?

At minimum, a monthly profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash summary after each close, with a short note on anything that needs your attention. Dashboards and industry-specific views can be added.

When will my monthly reports arrive?

Your close calendar is agreed during onboarding and depends on when statements and documents are available from your banks and vendors. We don’t publish a standard turnaround time.

Can reports be split by location, service or project?

Yes, where your chart of accounts and records support it. We set this up during onboarding or as part of a systems review.

Security

How do you access our financial accounts?

We ask for the least access needed to do the work — read-only access to bank and card feeds where your platforms offer it, and user access to your accounting software. We never ask for your online banking passwords.

How should we share documents?

Through the secure document workflow set up during onboarding. Please don’t send bank details, tax ID numbers or other sensitive documents through website forms or ordinary email.

Do you hold security certifications?

Sumday does not claim any security certification. If that changes, it will be stated on the Security page with supporting detail.

Contracts and cancellation

Is there a contract?

Yes. Every engagement is governed by a written service agreement that sets out the scope, fees and terms. You’ll see it before anything begins.

How long is the commitment, and how do I cancel?

Contract length, notice periods and cancellation terms have not been finalised and will be stated in your service agreement. We won’t ask you to commit before you’ve seen those terms.

What happens to my records if we stop working together?

Our intended approach is that your accounting file and records remain yours. The handover process will be described in your service agreement.

Still have a question?

Send it to us, or start the qualification form and we’ll cover it in our conversation.

A brighter financial future

Let’s build it together.

Tell us about your business and we’ll recommend the right combination of bookkeeping, financial operations and strategic support.
